“A Faith that Overcomes Our Fears “
I imagine, as believers, we would always be seeking more faith. If you are like me, you may find you are living life and when things are going well, our faith feels fine. Oh, it may waver a bit, but it feels like it comes back at least fairly strong.
But then a big crisis comes along. And we begin to wonder, we begin to worry, we might become frightened.
Please read the following verses. Mark 4:35-41
35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” 39 He got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. 40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
Now if you and I were out on a boat, in the dark in the midst of a fierce storm, we might become nervous quickly.
Remember, a number of the disciples were fishermen and they are scared. This is a fierce storm, (like many of the fierce storms of life we might face.)
So we call out to God, The disciples called out to the Son of God., who was sleeping) Didn’t He even care they were all going to die?
Well, Jesus did care and He calmed the storm. Then He scolded them for their lack of faith. As I read this, I thought, perhaps the disciples aren’t sure that Jesus is God at this point, because they ask who is this that the winds and waves obey.
If you are like me, you are not a storm chaser. You are not out there looking for trouble. Nevertheless, trouble will find you. And when it does, summon that faith that only the Lord God can give. We know who Jesus is, may we call on His name often.
Have a tremendous day in the Lord,
Let everything that has breath (this includes you) Praise and thank the Lord.
Be a Blessing;
