“Prayer, It Is Between You and God “
I remember when a former deacon came to me one day and said I will do anything you ask, but please don’t ask me to pray out loud.
As far as I remember, I did not ask him to have a spoken prayer.
Are you uncomfortable praying in public? Do you enjoy praying in public?
The Lord Jesus gave us some instruction in prayer. Please read the following verses to see the Lord’s Prayer.
Matthew 6:5-15 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 “This, then, is how you should pray:”‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ 14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
If you are asked to pray in public, that is fine. But remember, prayer is the way we talk to the Lord God. Your prayer is not to impress others, it is, to be honest with the Lord God.
If you are asked to pray in public, don’t be afraid your prayer will be too simple or not make sense. Remember, you are talking to the Lord God.
And in the verses, you just read the Lord gives us a prayer to pray. This prayer is simple, yet profound. I know some people who will pray in public when asked that just a few years ago would have never done that.
One more time, prayer is our way of talking to the Lord God. This can certainly be done in private as scripture instructs, but it is also ok to let people listen in on your conversation, especially if you have been invited to lead a prayer in public.
Have a tremendous day in the Lord,
Let everything that has breath (this includes you) Praise and thank the Lord.
Be a Blessing;
