“A One Hour Worship Service “
Many people like to have a church service that lasts no more than an hour or so. As many churches add more music, the time for the message gets shorter.
I have a friend who said a message should not be longer than 15-20 minutes. He bragged that he didn’t even listen to his wife that long. (To the disappointment of many, that couple is no longer married.)
Please read the following verses and see how long this particular message of Paul lasted.
7 On the first day of the week, we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight. 8 There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting. 9 Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead. 10 Paul went down, threw himself on the young man, and put his arms around him. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “He’s alive!”
11 Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left. 12 The people took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted.
Now it doesn’t say when Paul started his message, but he was still speaking at midnight. And when Eutychus fell out of the window, the Lord God used Paul to raise him from the dead. Then Paul went on preaching until daylight.
Other ethnicities celebrate worship for several hours each Sunday. I pray that we are not so tied to the clock that it diminishes our Worship.
Remember, when in heaven our days will be filled with worship.
Perhaps we best start getting used to that now.
