A Thought for Today – June 29, 2020

“If They Don’t Agree with With Us, Kill Them”

Now that I have your attention and before anyone gets excited, this is not my thought. I find this thought to be the method of operating of the Jewish religious leaders in years of Christ and after.

 Please read the following verses.

Acts 9:22-31

22 Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Christ.

23 After many days had gone by, the Jews conspired to kill him, 24 but Saul learned of their plan. Day and night they kept close watch on the city gates in order to kill him. 25 But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall.

26 When he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple. 27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus. 28 So Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. 29 He talked and debated with the Grecian Jews, but they tried to kill him. 30 When the brothers learned of this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.

31 Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace. It was strengthened, and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord.

Why would this thought be true of those religious leaders? For one thing, the first book of the New Testament, Matthew comes four hundred years after Malachi, the last book of the Old Testament. The Lord God has not talked to His people in 400 years. A lot can happen in 400 years. Our country is not that old.

And a lot did happen. The religious leaders had corrupted the Lord’s perfect plan into a money-making scheme. Jesus, Paul, and others threatened to and did expose this corruption, much to the disdain of those leaders.

Trying to get rid of the ones exposing our sinfulness, is not an effective way to live. As we become believers, we realize what we must repent of our sinful ways, to turn our back on the things we might do that harm our relationship with Christ.

We don’t kill the Lord’s servants, we figuratively with the Holy Spirit’s help kill the old sin nature that is within. We don’t even need to kill it. It died on the cross in the person of Christ. Your debt has been paid, please accept this perfect gift of life from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Many including me would be willing to tell you more about this.

Be Blest, Be a Blessing
