Perhaps the church you attend has this service, perhaps it doesn’t.
At New Paris COB we try to have a scriptural basis for what we do.
We believe that someone should not be baptized until they can make a decision for themselves about what to do with Christ’s offer, His blood for our sins.
However, we do have a baby dedication/parent consecration service.
You are invited to read the following verses.
22 When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”),
24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.”
Now we dedicate male and female babies.
So some might call this a baby blessing as much as a dedication.
We have the parents of the children answer some questions.
They promise to bring their children up in a way that their child might one day say yes to Jesus offer.
We are told that Jesus was presented to the Lord. This is what we attempt to do during the child dedication/parent consecration service.
It is a service that this old preacher enjoys very much. Keep those babies coming. 🙂
