A Thought for Today: “Stand Firm”
please read the following verses.
Please read the following verses.
13 But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.
14 He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15 So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.
16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.
What comes to mind when you see these two words, stand firm. An image from my childhood comes to mind.
One of my favorite games was red rover.
A class of children would be split into two teams. Each team stood in a wide line and held hands. The teams would assess who the strongest people were on the opposite team and stay away from them. They would assess who the wearer kids were from the other team.and run at them.
So one team would say red rover, red rover let Salley come over.
So Salley would run as hard as she could to where she thought the weakest people were and try to break through the lone.
If she did, she could pick a stong member from the team she had run at to be on her team. If she didn’t break through, she had to stay on the team she had run towards.
I have to admit, this game was liked by boys better than girls. We usually lined up in our wide lines boy-girl, boy-girl. The girls had a tendency to let go of the hands she was holding more easily than the boys. The boys had joy in holding the runner back, with he or she sometimes bouncing to the ground.
So what I started to do, was grab the wrists of the girls. They could not let go that way and we were a stronger line.
This is what comes to mind as I think of as standing firm.
May we all stand firm for Christ, digging in for a battle with life’s line busters.
May the evil thing of life be bounced off us as much as the weaker kids bounced off of the red trover lines.
