“Redemption in Christ “

Redemption is a word that we might not use much anymore. We know it is one of those religious words, but what else do we know about it.
Redemption: The act of purchasing back something previously sold.

Now we may have done that. I have dreamed of finding and repurchasing my first car, a 1968 Coronet R/T. But I am pretty sure that the car is long gone.

In the season of slavery, sometimes slaveholders “re-bought” a slave they had previously owned. As slavery in the US was winding down, near the time of the Civil War, some people bought slaves, delivering them from slavery by setting them free.

But the redemption I am talking about in today’s thought is different from what this world thinks.

Please read the following verses.
NKJV Eph 1:3-14

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth — in Him. 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.
13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

Yes, believer, you have been redeemed, bought back from Satan. All of our sins have been paid for and taken off of our eternal record.

Perhaps the words of a hymn can help us better understand.

“Since I Have Been Redeemed”
1 I have a song I love to sing,

Since I have been redeemed,

Of my Redeemer, Savior, King,

Since I have been redeemed.

Chorus: Since I have been redeemed,

Since I have been redeemed,

I will glory in His name;

Since I have been redeemed,

I will glory in my Savior’s name.

2 I have a Christ who satisfies Since I have been redeemed,

To do His will– my highest prize, Since I have been redeemed.

Chorus:

Since I have been redeemed,

Since I have been redeemed,

I will glory in His name;

Since I have been redeemed,

I will glory in my Savior’s name.

3 I have a witness bright and clear,

Since I have been redeemed,

Dispelling ev’ry doubt and fear,

Since I have been redeemed.

Chorus:

Since I have been redeemed,

Since I have been redeemed,

I will glory in His name;

Since I have been redeemed,

I will glory in my Savior’s name.

4 I have a home prepared for me,

Since I have been redeemed,

Where I shall dwell eternally,

Since I have been redeemed.

Chorus: Since I have been redeemed,

Since I have been redeemed,

I will glory in His name;

Since I have been redeemed,

I will glory in my Savior’s name.

Oh, Praise our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! He poured out His precious blood for all mankind. Now I can sing with all the redeemed, that I too have been redeemed.

Have a tremendous day in the Lord,

Let everything that has breath (this includes you) Praise and thank the Lord.

Be Blessed, Be a Blessing;

Amen
